"There is no such thing as a new idea. It is impossible. We simply take a lot of old ideas and put them into a sort of mental kaleidoscope. We give them a turn and they make new and curious combinations. We keep on turning and making new combinations indefinitely; but they are the same old pieces of colored glass that have been in use through all the ages." - Mark Twain

Mark Twain's statement perfectly sums up how I feel about my website. The ideas remain largely the same, yet I feel somewhat compelled to tinker with both the content and the presentation.

How It Was

The last iteration of this site used WordPress and a formalized framework to control presentation. It was serviceable, but it looked dated. In addition, I felt like the WP platform itself was a bit more than I really needed for serving (mostly) static pages. I wanted something that was a bit lighter, and having something that was open-source was also desirable.

How It (Now) Is

The site is now using Ghost as the publishing platform and I've stuck with the default theme (Source). I had a brief interlude with the Headline theme, and it would also have been a good choice. But I feel like the homepage is stronger with Source.

I'm hopeful the breath of fresh air in terms of appearance and functionality will encourage me to get on and write longer-form content.
