Serious Cracker Addiction
Recent trips to Costco left me momentarily hooked on a snack cracker that objectively was not good for me. Unfortunately, facts had little to do with this obsession.
The cracker in question: Sargento Pepper Jack flavored Cheese Bakes. For a while, the crackers were a serious addiction. The crunchy texture and the mild spice combined with the tangy pepper jack flavor were an unbeatable combination. An open one-pound (!) bag was empty quicker than it should have been.
Thankfully, I seem to have overcome the compulsion of this tasty treat after consuming 10 bags (pounds) of them. Literally. It wasn’t a heroic effort requiring exercising any sort of willpower, a realization at how bad all these carbs were for somebody with t1d, or any other kind of epiphany.
It was culinary fatigue. Pure and simple.
Thankfully, the bags appear to be in the process of being phased-out at my local Costco. As the bulk sizing appears to be a Costco exclusive, future temptation to overconsume will be tempered by the price associated with purchasing smaller quantities from online sources.
I’m relieved it’s over.
